Some Thoughts on Sustainable Jewellery

The world of sustainable and ethical jewellery is very new to me. Mostly because I have not acquired any new pieces for some time, since I’m very happy with what I already got. But when I graduated from my master’s last year I wanted to get something lasting as a memory and as a gift to myself.

The jewellery industry is quite dirty and heavy on materials such as gold and silver which are often located in developing countries with poor regulations. This increases the risk that child labour is used to source the materials. I know far too little about this topic to write any more but I bought a piece from Ara the altar. Every piece is hand crafted by the owner and made to order, which I found very sweet since this means that this piece was truly made for me. The pieces are aslo made from recycled gold and silver.
